My name is Sandy Micari and I am so blessed to be at St. Thomas the Apostle school this year! I have been a parent at St. Thomas for the last three years and I am so excited to be welcomed as a part of this amazing staff!
My journey in education began many years ago when I earned a bachelor's and master's degree from Saint Joseph College with a dual certification in regular and special education. I began my career teaching special education and then I taught first grade for three years before my daughter Morgan was born. I taught kindergarten for four years and when my son Nicholas was born, I decided to stay home with my children. Our family was blessed with two more sons, Ryan and Matthew. I worked at home for several years caring for our children and our home. I returned to education when my youngest son entered kindergarten. I have been working in the West Hartford schools for the last six years as a reading tutor and last year, I completed a graduate degree in remedial reading and language arts from Central Connecticut State University. I am thrilled to be working with your children this year in first grade! My passion is teaching reading through all the subject areas and I am looking forward to meeting each of you and forming a strong home/school connection to help your children thrive in our classroom!
I have many interests outside of school. I love to stay active and I enjoy running with a group of friends. Together, we have completed three half marathons. I love to read books, garden and to watch my children play the many sports that they love: football, soccer, basketball, lacrosse and baseball. Our family also loves to travel. We have been blessed to go on many wonderful vacations to visit our country's national parks. This summer, we will be hiking in Sequoia National Park which will be the tenth national park that we have had the privilege to visit! In the wintertime, our family loves to hit the slopes in Vermont or New Hampshire. A few years ago, I learned how to snowboard because my children did not believe that I would be able to do it! Through lots of hard work and determination, I surprised them all and I am now a confident snowboarder and able to keep up with them!
I have learned through the years to trust in God and that He always has a better plan for my life than I could ever have hoped for! I truly believe that He has brought me to St. Thomas for His purpose and I am privileged to do His work. I look forward to welcoming your children into our classroom family and working with you throughout the school year!
Some of my favorite things...
Mr. Micari and I went to Colorado this summer for our 25th wedding anniversary! We drove to the top of Mount Evans, the highest paved roadway in the United States!
